I'd Love It, Mizz Hilary

I'm watching Love It Or List It as we speak and I feel SO sorry for Hilary that I want to reach through the television and smack homeowner Sherry right upside her crusty head!

Doesn't she know she sounds like a shrill seagull? Yapping and complaining about everything! Gawd! If I was her husband Charles I'd kick her bony butt right out.

I'm addicted to this TV show, I have to say. If you've never seen it, there are two stars: designer Hilary Farr and real estate expert David Visentin. They work with frustrated homeowners who are no longer in love with their houses. Hilary renovates, hoping the owners will love their house again. David shows them other properties, hoping they'll list and move.

I love David, I do. He's one of the most charming guys on TV, but his job is so easy! All he has to do is  show houses. Hilary, on the other hand, has the daunting job of renovating and it's always more complicated than it first seems as she deals with hidden problems like leaky basements, asbestos, bad wiring and even rodent infestation. As her contractors uncover the hidden problems, Hilary has to go to the homeowners and either get more money for them or cut back on the scope of the renovation. Invariably, the homeowners refuse to hand over more cash.

Which, as far as I'm concerned, is ridiculous! Hilary does amazing work. If I had her working on MY house, I would beg, borrow or steal the extra money so she could do everything that needed doing. I mean, how often do you have a professional designer in your house? Give her the money! Get it done! Pffft... people drive me crazy.

Hilary, you can come make my house beautiful. I promise I won't yell at you. I promise I'll "love it." I'll bake you cookies (cause you're a little on the skinny side), I'll rub your tired tootsies and I'll kiss the ground you walk on.

And if you need somebody to take a round out of Mizz Sherry, well, just ask! I'll "list" her right into next week!

  1. I have watched that show. What irritates me is that homeowners don't seem to realize that when problems are uncovered they have to be fixed and that eats up the budget.

  2. I know, right? Drives me crazy too! It's not HIlary's fault their house has issues!

  3. I haven't seen it, but don't think I could hand over the design of my home to anyone else. But how I agree your problem, your responsibility. In decorating and in life...

    1. I'm pretty sure it's a Canadian show, EC... and unfortunately I don't think it's available online. If you're ever in Canada, though, come by and I'll put on the popcorn!

    1. My house IS awesome! I'm still not used to its awesomeness... but I'm sure Hilary could help me with furniture arranging and picture hanging!!!

Yeah, it's Canadian.. probably not available waaaaaaaaay down south where you are! ;) If you get a chance to see it, though, I know you'll like it.

  5. We've been all day traveling down and back from the Big Smoke with the last 2 1/2hrs on the 400. The first thing I read when I got home was this post and it made my day. (Dave say's it made his day too) Funny stuff!!

  6. Chatty Cathy, your blog is irresistible, I keep coming back for more. I am also addicted to this show, and think being hateful on the part of at least one of the homeowners is a requirement of the contract. The problem is I get nothing but reruns now not to mention mr velcro man changing the channel when I leave the room. From Nova Scotia where there are NEVER any renovations, just excuses.

    1. OMG, a new follower!!!!! Hey Bearly! You are TOO kind. I'm sorry there are no renovations in Nova Scotia but it is Nova Scotia after all - and a beautiful province like that doesn't really need renovations!

  7. I love that show, too. Ditto the Love it or List It 2. It's weird seeing two different people say the same lines Hilary and David usually say, though.

    1. I know! I don't understand it, either. Surely they must have seen the show before they signed up... they must have some idea of what's in store! Sheesh...

  10. It has to be a girl thing. I wouldn't watch that if they served bacon pop corn; but enjoy - Life would be boring if we all were the same.

  11. I have never heard of the show and I have not been in here since before you made some major renovations of your own. I guess it would make sense that with the move there would be a new blog name. Very nice and I LOVE the pic of you in the sailboat up there!

  13. My name is Karen and I am also an addict. I lay in my bed at night with a good show in mind, but if Love It or List It is on, I MUST FLIP BACK AND FORTH. Doesn't matter if it's a rerun, I must FLIP. (I've even been known to flip off Downton Abby but don't tell anybody...they'll kick me out of the club)
