Mother of god, in the name of all that's holy, what IS that smell?

Sniff.

Sniff, sniff.

Sniff, sniff, sniffetty-sniff.

SNIFF.

Ugh. What is that SMELL?

Smells like dog shite. Or cat poo truffles. Some sort of animal excrement.

I peer under the kitchen table and scout around for pliable land mines. Nothing.

Sniff, sniff.

Well, SOMETHING reeks!

In front of me is a cheerful bouquet of daffodils, a present from Dave in honour of the Cancer Society. Every year at this time they sell daffodils to raise money for cancer research. Which is great, right? But they might as well sell dog poop on a stick because those daffy flowers are stinko-amoondo.

A rose by any other name might smell as sweet but daffodils smell pretty much like somebody's dirty underwear.

Dave went all out - the flowers came with this unique vase!

  1. Never noticed they stunk. My sense of smell isn't great anyway.

    1. I bet you clean the bathroom and change the kitty litter at your house. Nose Ninja! Taking on the stinkiest household chores!

  2. Is it the bloom or the water that stinks? If it's the water just dump out and replace (only don't recut the stems).

    1. Have sniffed both. Not the water. Definitely the blooms.

    2. And now my nose is coated with yellow pollen. I look like a Yield sign.

    1. Dave is the world's most perfect husband. I'm not kidding! We were at the hairdresser's tonight getting groomed and our lovely stylist said exactly that! Everyone does. Especially my mother.

  5. Daffodils should NOT stink. Indeed, they have a subtle, vanilla like smell, so something is wrong with them thar flowers.

But they are perky and springy, and your man done good with the vase ;^)

    peace...

    1. I know they shouldn't stink! I've had plenty of daffodils before and they never smelled like this. I'm thinking somebody over-fertilized them?
Yeah, he did. It's actually perfect - I might just wash it when I'm done and save it for summer dandelion bouquets from the kids!

  6. I have allergies, so seldom have flowers in the house. My parents went thru a similar experience - whiffs of something like ammonia/dead animal. turns out is was from their Bradford pear tree in the yard :-) Not all that is beautiful is equally fragrant.

    1. I KNOW, Li! We had a pear tree in our backyard when I was growing up and, man oh man, did that thing smell! I guess bees like it but humans? Not so much.

  7. They are pretty. Maybe they need to be outdoor flowers. Still, that vase is cute enough to be an indoor vase. You have quite a situation here.

  8. Maybe it is just the water that stinks!
