I burped just now and my reburperated toasted tomato sandwich tasted exactly like cod liver oil.
This happens all the time. Does it happen to you? How can a regurgitated TOMATO possibly taste like FISH OIL?
Mother of cod, please help me end this insanity ...
I've never tasted cod liver oil. Now I'm really grateful for that!
ReplyDeleteWot? Your mother never made you take teaspoons of that oily slime? After a couple years of liquid she gave us pills and they were fine when we swallowed them - be every time we burped for the REST OF THE DAY all we could taste was fish. UGH.
DeleteArrrgh!! Cod liver oil was all the rage with old Italian mothers/grandmothers. They shoved that spoon of nasty down your throat adding comments like, "this is so good for you". But inside your mouth was slowly dying and as a kid I remember wondering, "How Nonna, how?? How is this disgusting gob that makes me gag and smells like bay grass at low tide, be ANY kind of good for me? Especially when every other time she handed me a spoon full of something it tasted like heaven. It was pure torture taking that "medicine".
ReplyDeleteI know a song about cod liver oil, but that's about as close as I get.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I was tasting cucumber and I hadn't had any cucumbers for a couple of days....how indeed, does that happen? Doesn't say much for our digestive systems does it?
ReplyDeleteDid your tomato sammich have mayonnaise on it? The taste of the oil in that might have triggered the cod liver oil memory. NASTY stuff, cod liver oil!

ReplyDeleteHumans are weird.
I can't say I'll ever think of tomatoes the same way again. :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I get that taste after I take my fish oil….

Cod moves in mysterious ways.
ReplyDeleteNo answers to this one, Cathy. Burping is something that I deny.
ReplyDeleteYuk, although I will admit that sometimes a burp of spoiled milk is what gets my attention - I don't drink milk! Stomach acid does horrendous things!
ReplyDeleteEeeuw. What a way to ruin a perfectly good tomato sandwich. We never got cod liver oil - for which I am grateful.
ReplyDeleteI have never tasted cod liver oil thank god! It sure sounds gross....I remember seeing it on the Little Rascals and the rascals were always grossed out having to take that or caster oil. Is this the first time that's happened after tomato sammich?
ReplyDeleteMost of my contemporaries hated cod live oil, I didn't mind it a bit and wouldn't mind if my tomato tasted of it when I burped. However, I would be damned annoyed if it tasted of cod liver oil whilst I was eating it.
ReplyDeleteReturning your visit.
ummmmmmmm.......
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what cod liver or its oil tastes like, but we did have cod on Monday, and it was yummy.
ReplyDeleteI would think mayo might have something to do with it....
ReplyDeleteTMI LOL :-D
ReplyDeleteDoesn't sound appetizing. I think I'll pass. Sarah Anne Foster's cupcakes look tasty, though.
ReplyDeleteArggggh! I remember the taste of cod liver oil.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably the bread. Are you eating bread which has been "enriched" with Omega 3s? They do that by adding fish oil to the dough. I bought a sliced loaf of that stuff once and threw it out after the first bite of a sandwich. The fishy taste was too strong and I've never bought it again.
ReplyDeleteI take a cod liver oil capsule every morning, always with breakfast.
In my childhood we had our cod liver oil in the form of "Milk Emulsion" white and awful, but because it was called MILK emulsion and looked like milk my sister loved it and would line up for seconds. (She loved milk too, crazy girl!) Every day from autumn equinox until spring equinox. We never got sick.
ReplyDeleteerm - can't say it has, no :)

So there's a photo of you alongside "Happiest When Wet" with a fish in your hands. Do you eat a lot of fish, Cathy? If so, you don't have to worry about getting your Omega 3s! But these fish oils etc are great now, and they flavor them so they're not as bad.
ReplyDeleteTHAT'S MY HUSBAND!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!
DeleteBahah! I love the photo that comes up at the top of this page.

Yep, my mom gave us the cod liver oil treatment when we kids. Yuck! I remember burping fishy tastes all day long. Ewwwww.
ReplyDeleteThe solution is obvious: eat cod fish and when you burp it will taste like a tomato sandwich.
